Pier or jetty — which should you fish?

Piers are wooden or concrete decks over sandy-bottom open coast — easier footing, usually a bait-and-tackle shop nearby, and a wider spread of species like surfperch, corbina, and croaker close to the beach plus halibut and mackerel further out toward the T-end. Jetties are rock breakwaters that create current breaks and structure — better odds on rockfish, sheephead, and (in season) spiny lobster around the boulders, but uneven footing and no rail to lean on, so check each jetty's page for real access notes before you go.
